Friendship as a Value in Academic Ethos

The aim of the research work reported here was to clarify semantics notion “friendship”. main question is what extent friendship recognised by students and teachers as a value constituting identity Jagiellonian University’s (JU) academic community. From it follows another one: role does play in system ethos– have potential or transform values enshrined documents enduring? This study uses qualitative data generated from collected material: semi-structured interviews online surveys with closed questions, single multiple choice. Content analysis used examine identifying words, phrases sentences related tasks. conclusions can be summarised as: 1.Friendship functions horizontal relationships; 2. Friendship an essential university ethos, realised through its other, already acknowledged, values: fair treatment, kindness, responsibility respect for other; 3. evolves references; 4. ethos leads merger professional private spheres; 5. automatically excluded when vertical relationship appears.
